Some beautiful hill stations in India are still on my bucket list, but I am fortunate enough to visit a few. Here, I am sharing six of them that I have visited and would recommend visiting:

1. Lansdowne, Uttarakhand

This hill station is situated on the Kotdwar - Pauri road at a height of 1,780 m in Uttarakhand, India. Lansdowne is a cantonment area with headquarters of Gharwal Regiment of our India Army. If you live in the NCR, then this place is a quick escape and one of the most beautiful places to visit. Fortunately, I have visited Lansdowne twice. My first trip to this beautiful place was in the monsoon season - the best time to visit this place. I found this place quite different from other popular hill stations of Uttarakhand like Nainital, Mussoorie, or Shimla. I would recommend this place if you are in search of a peaceful hill station with the best scenic view.

2. Chakrata, Uttarakhand

View of Himalayas from Deoband

Chakrata is among the most peaceful hill stations of Uttarakhand. This town is situated between the Tons and Yamuna rivers, at an elevation of 2118 m, 98 km from the state capital, Dehradun. I visited this hill station during my Delhi stay. We had a wonderful road trip experience from Delhi to Chakrata. Compared to other hill stations, Chakrata offers some of the most picturesque and breathtaking views.

If you love trekking, bird watching, camping, river rafting, or just wanting to admire the sunset, you must visit Chakrata at least once.

3. Munnar, Kerala

Located at the Western Ghats with an average elevation of 1700 meters above sea level, Munnar is a famous hill station in Kerala. This one has a special place in my heart as that was my first trip to Kerala and also the first experience of seeing the tea plantations. Munnar is also a very popular honeymoon destination in India and is known as the Kashmir of South India. The hill station is famous for its lush green hills and tea plantations. During your visit, do not forget to visit the tea museum to know the origins and growth of tea plantations in Munnar.

4. Wayanad, Kerala

Tea plantations of Wayanad

Fondly known as ‘The Land of Paddy Fields’ amid the native tribes of this region, Wayanad is atop the Western Ghats at an altitude of 2100m. This is the only district of Kerala that borders both Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The most attractive feature of Wayanad is the forests, which are as old as 3,000 years.

Wayanad is one of the picturesque hill stations in Kerala with a lot of attractions for everyone. It’s a perfect place to escape the daily grind and for a relaxing family holiday. We enjoyed scenic beauty, visiting an ancient temple, carvings, and paintings in the caves. A safari through the deep green forest was a thrilling experience for us. On top of that, we had the best authentic Kerala food there. According to my experience, Wayanad is a perfect destination for nature lovers, photographers, adventures, trekkers, history lovers, and a family holiday.

5. Coorg, Karnataka

Coorg raja’s seat view

A nice and peaceful hill station near Bengaluru and also a good candidate for a road trip. Coorg – also known as Kodagu – is a tranquil rural district cradled in the Western Ghats in southern Karnataka. Coorg experiences monsoons from June till September and often receives heavy showers, which increases the beauty of this place manifolds. It is also known as one of the best hills stations in southern India and is rather famous as “Scotland of India” because the climate and the landscapes are similar to Scotland.

If you want to pick coffee berries on tour around a coffee plantation and want to witness lush greenery and spectacular landscapes, then Coorg is the right place to go.

6. Chikmagalur, Karnataka

Hirekolale Lake

Popularly known as the ‘Coffee Land’ of the Karanataka, Chikmagalur is a beautiful hill station for a tranquil retreat which also provides the unique experience of walking through the coffee plantations. This place has a lot to offer to its visitors – lush green mountains, picturesque trekking trails, cascading waterfalls, and mystical temples. If you are a real nature lover, then there is no better place than the verdant hills of Chikmagalur.
