International Women’s Day
Overview
As International Women’s Day is around the corner, I can’t help myself but wonder about the power of being a woman. Here, I am attempting to pen down a reflection of my thoughts in the form of rhymed verses on this occasion.
As International Women’s Day is around the corner, I can’t help myself but wonder about the power of being a woman. Although I think every woman should be proud of herself, there comes a time in every woman’s life when they need a little kick of inspiration. And for that, I personally love Maya Angelou’s poem, Phenomenal Woman and how she conveyed a direct message to the women who ever doubted her inner beauty. Although I like each line of this poem, the first line is my favourite:
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
Maya beautifully portrayed the fact that every woman has an inner beauty that makes her beautiful, no matter what her appearance is. She also described how a woman’s aura attracts men yet leaves them to wonder about her inner mystery.
I believe International Women’s Day just reminds us every year how far we women have come. Women all over the world have achieved a lot and exceeded in every field of life. And I am fortunate enough that I am living and raising my daughters in this era where men and women have equal rights.
From Sati Pratha to the #metoo movement, women have continued to fight for their rights in spite of many obstacles. Nowadays, both men and women understand that the world is not dominated by one of them. They both have to work together and support each other to make this world a wonderful place to live. As someone truly said:
An equal world is an enabled world.
Here, I am attempting to pen down a reflection of my thoughts in the form of rhymed verses on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Also read here my poems about Travel Inspiration, Sister a Forever Friend, and An Incredible Mother.
So here we go - these lines are for all the doting women out there who are setting examples in many ways.
Womanhood is a gift to be treasured and valued, often wrapped in lots of abilities,
It’s also a privilege that comes with certain inescapable responsibilities.
The ideal woman of our age is in control of her own life and decisions,
They are glamorous, sophisticated, powerful, career-minded and full of ambitions.
By playing many roles and wearing trillions of hats,
They’re proving themselves and truly deserve appreciation for that.
I know we always did and we will never stop judging a woman,
But all the stones thrown at them will only make them a strong human.
Here’s one thing that everyone needs to understand,
We are not here to humiliate anyone or to command.
We just need to encourage, support and respect each other,
As men and women both have their role to make this world better.
Today, I am saluting all those women who inspire me and everyone,
I know for some of them the journey wasn’t easy, but still, they won.
I am also saluting to those men who made our journey smooth and simple,
No matter whether they are father, husband, brother, mentor or uncle.
If a woman is determined to rise, no one can stop her to succeed,
It’s never been easy to sail against the flow and proceed.
But a strong woman knows how to stand out in a crowd,
Here’s a big applaud to every woman who made us and herself proud!
